GAME 1 OF 2022 IS IN THE BOOKS...

by Brian Borkowsky

It was nice to be back in the comfy confines of Can Neely arena.  After 2 years away from the floor, your new look Burrards opened the season at home against the talent laden Langley Thunder.  The Thunder are an early favorite to win the WLA title this year, but the Burrards did not make it easy for them Sunday night.  The visitors jumped out to an early 5-1 lead, before the Burrards started to claw their way back.  After 1 period of play, the Burrards found themselves down by 2.  From that point on, there was never than a 2 goal swing with a final score of 13-12 for the Thunder.

There were a plenty of first-time goal scorers in that game, led by 5 point nights from Dennon Armstrong, James Baker, Garrett Winter and Ryan Jones.

Despite the loss, the coaches where very impressed with the work ethic and the fight in this young team. Comments from Head Coach Rob Williams, “Not the result we wanted but what an effort by a handful of grizzly vets and whole bunch of young guys playing first WLA games.”

The Burrards are back on the floor, Sunday June 9th with a 6:30pm start vs the Victoria Shamrocks.  We hope to see you all there.
